The education of kids is a very important thing. It helps students not only learn to grow and develop but it also teaches the educators as well. I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl, which makes this assignment and teaching program more meaningful to me.
I have chosen to do this service learning at Canyon Elementary with the kindergartners. Within doing this researchers I have found that Canyon has roughly around nine hundred students and ninety eight percent of them are white. When it comes to this school I have also found that they have many activities that are put on through out the year not just for the students but for their families also. Such activities include many after school clubs for the students to enjoy and get to know one another like reading, computers, and even art club. Throughout the year, they have different school orchestras come out and play for the school and the neighborhood to show off what talents the students have. I have learned there are many more children who live in the neighborhood but because there is a charter school within a few miles a way the school isn't as big as it would be. The neighborhood is made up of many different races and religions of families that we learn something new every single day about these children that we never knew before.
I understand service learning as going out and helping those in the community while teaching and learning in the process of those in need. I believe people learn through there own experiences while teaching or doing what they love. This is important because it helps those who want to teach to
make sure this is something they really do want to do before they go into the field of teaching giving them the idea of what the teaching field is like.
